This film could be classified as a socially conscious crowdpleaser. Val is a domestic servant in Sao Paulo, very conscious of her subordinate role within the household. The arrival of Jessica, Val’s biological daughter whom she hasn’t seen for 10 years, places a strain on the relationships within the household.
