A little-remembered chapter from WWII’s immediate aftermath in Denmark is dramatized in “Land of Mine.” A group of young German POWs are forced to clear a beach of thousands of land mines under the watch of a Danish Sergeant who slowly learns to appreciate their plight. Martin Zandvliet’s third directorial feature is a tightly focused narrative that builds tension and poignancy brilliantly and with its muted colors and naturalistic lighting it aptly captures the beauty of seaside locales that frame the human struggles at the story’s heart.
